06 has wider sole (area where it touches the ground) and bigger notch weighting (back part of the club head) >> more forgiving and easier to get the ball airborne.
Technologically, 06 is much better…. now, would this “improvement” be noticeable by a beginner? Probably not.
It’s kinda like…. comparing 04 ‘vette vs. 06 ‘vette… Obviously, 06 will be faster and nicer….but both are way faster than most cars on the road.
